If you’ve been watching the snowpack on Mount Hood this season, you already know something unusual is happening. The mountain is remarkably bare for this time of year — and that means hikers are already out there putting boots on the Timberline Trail earlier than usual.
So we’re doing something we’ve never done before: launching the 2026 Timberline Trail Survey early.
After four years of collecting data on completion rates, conditions, Leave No Trace practices, and everything in between, we know that the survey is most valuable when it captures the full picture of a season — and that season is clearly starting now.

As you complete the trail this season, please come back and share your experience. Every response helps build a richer understanding of what the trail looks like year to year — and this year, with the low snow conditions, your data will be especially interesting to compare against previous seasons.
